Hayley Rose Superstar

There was a lot of excitement at home yesterday. The Hartford Courant used a photo submitted by my daughter, Hayley, our resident artist, photographer, and novelist, for the cover of their weekly iTowns magazine (you can view the online edition here). Her mugshot accompanied the her photo on the cover and a short bio appeared on page 3.

Needless to say, we were pretty buzzed by the event.

I handed Hayley some cash to hit all the newsstands in Wolcott to buy extra copies of the newspaper, while my sister did the same over in Waterbury.

That's a joke... newsstands are rare these days. CVS turned out to be the source of our Courant buying spree.

new ARRL web site up and running

The new ARRL web site is up and running. Current and past installments of Surfin' are accessible there.

On the new ARRL web site, all the URLs or links to past installments of Surfin' are different than on the old ARRL web site, so I will have to update all the references mentioned in this blog. It is a big job, so it will take some time to do it.

bubka

My wife and I went grocery shopping at the local Stop & Shop today. While in the bakery department, I noticed a sign for "BUBKA," which I assume is babka from Southern Poland.

bear diner

After dinner tonight, I went outside to replenish the bird feeder. I immediately noticed that the chain that supports the bird feeder was lower than usual.

Next I noticed that most of the suet holder was gone. All that was left was what you see in the accompanying photo.

I assume a critter visited last night... probably a bear.

I did not replace the suet feeder. I don't want the critter to get any idea that I am opening an all-night diner.
