Six on the Sixth

UN on 388 kHz in State College, Pennsylvania

Good conditions/propagation this morning resulted in six new entries in the longwave log.

LE on 242 kHz transmitting 100 watts from Lexington, Kentucky, 670 miles west-southwest

D7 on 350 kHz transmitting 25 watts from Kincardine, Ontario, 472 miles west-northwest

AZ on 370 kHz transmitting 25 watts from Kalamazoo, Michigan, 648 miles west

IRS on 382 kHz transmitting 25 watts from Sturgis, Michigan, 644 miles west

UN on 388 kHz transmitting 25 watts from State College, Pennsylvania, 353 miles west

IL on 407 kHz transmitting 25 watts from Wilmington, Ohio, 585 miles west-southwest

Huge FDC

A few weeks ago, I ordered some United Nations stamps from the UN Postal Administration.

On Thursday, a 12.5 x 15 inch flat cardboard mailer arrived from the UN containing my order.

My daughter remarked the six UN stamps affixed to the mailer were "Cool!" I agreed.

Upon closer inspection, I was surprised to see that the stamps were postmarked March 8, 2016 with a First Day of Issue postmark for the UN's He For She stamps issued that day. Two stamps (the pair at the top right) from that issue were among the six affixed to the mailer.

At 12.5 x 15 inches, that makes it the largest First Day Cover in my collection, by far. Cool!

And March 8 was my birthday, so that makes it that much cooler!
