Surfin': Going ATV Digitally

This week’s Surfin’ considers Web sites where Amateur Television (ATV) is going digital.

Did you know that Surfin’ is a weekly column published on ARRLWeb that features Web sites related to Amateur Radio, specifically, and radio, in general? If you have any suggestions for Surfin’, please contact WA1LOU using the e-mail link to the right.

  1. I also recommend these other resources:
Fundamentals of Digital Television Transmission, by Gerald W. Collins,
    PE (ISBN 0-471-21376-4)

Digital Amateur Television (D-ATV), by N2IRZ, CQ Magazine June 2004

  2. A deeper search might reveal the ATCO ATV club in Columbus, OH as being the first amateur repeater site in the U.S. to have digital ATV. It is also full duplex. See www.atco.tv for info.

  4. I've successfully transmitted 8vsb now on 70 and 33 cm. I haven't yet gotten the amplifiers I need to transmit non-trivial amounts of power, but so far as I am aware, this is the first time an amateur has transmitted 8VSB in North America and received it on unmodified (except for adding a downconverter in front) consumer grade TV equipment.
