Did you know that Surfin’ is a weekly column published on ARRLWeb that features Web sites related to Amateur Radio, specifically, and radio, in general? If you have any suggestions for Surfin’, please contact WA1LOU using the e-mail link to the right.

  1. Hello Stan,
It amazes me how we have such similar radio starting points. I too had a Remco Radiocraft Crystal set. I built a super long wire antenna for it and it worked great! Later, I attempted to build an audio amplifier from Morgan's 2nd electronics book but was unable to make it work (impedance matching problem which I didn't understand until MUCH later....). I graduated to a series of one tube homebrew receivers and then received a Monarch Ham-1 for XMAS (Iwanted a Collins!!) Thanks for the memory stirring!!

  2. P.S. the Collins would have cost my dad 1/2 his annual income!!

  3. Herb - I wonder how many Remco crystal sets were responsible for populating ham radio in the 1960s and 70s?

  4. I think it must be legion. We can also thank Mr. Morgan for his very fine series of Boy Electronics books. I still read them!!
